Climbing

Sport climbing is a very challenging activity, allowing each climber to develop at his own pace. Although the sport focuses on developing technique, balance, strength and stamina it is above all a thoroughly enjoyable activity. Safety awareness is of paramount importance to be able to climb in a safe and relaxed environment.

Shell climbing has two goals: to teach absolute beginners to climb indoors on their own, and to allow experienced climbers to share their experiences and to enjoy the sport together. The training of beginners is done via a course, which follows the rules set up by the NKBV, the Dutch Mountain Association. Trained instructors at the climbing hall and several experienced members of the club give the course. The club also intends to provide courses at more advanced levels.

If you are a rock climber, mountaineer, alpinist, a mountain lover, or any other similar species, give us a call to find out what we do. If you have never tried climbing before, maybe still not sure whether you would like it or not, then do not hesitate to take this opportunity to join us one day and see how it feels!!

Equipment:

We have harnesses, karabiners, belay devices, a rope and some runners, reading material and some DVD's. All equipment is available for members who don't have their own stuff yet.

Safety:

Climbing is a very safe sport as long as you and your partner abide to the rules. The introduction course is the first step to become a safe climber. In this course you will learn the basic knowledge on safety, equipment and rules. Before you are allowed to go climbing "on your own" you have to be qualified by one of the ASV Climbing instructors. On this informal exam your knowledge on equipment, rules and safety is tested. After passing it, you'll get an un-official ASV Climbing certificate and your first piece of safety equipment.
